National Night Out
Tuesday, Aug, 2, 2016
(Set-Up for displays begins at 4 pm)
“Unity In Our Community!”
Yes! It’s that time of the year again for National Night Out (NNO) which is held each year on the first Tuesday in August by the Rockville Community Alliance, (RCA) and the Vernon Police Dept. This year it is on August 2, from 5-8 pm in the center of Rockville in front of Vernon’s Town Hall. (14 Park Place for GPS!)
Due to the national attention on the sometimes strained relationships between the communities and law enforcement, the RCA is holding a special ceremony: Unity in Our Community to draw attention to those HEROES THAT KEEP US SAFE and the EVERYDAY HEROES in our community.
At our special ceremony at 6:00 pm we will all gather around the flagpole in Rockville’s Central Park and hear remarks from various speakers, political leaders, and the clergy. With all the recent issues with racism, terrorism and most recently the abuse and misuse of the rule of law and law enforcement, this event can be an important moment in time to show the “Unity in our Community” that exists within our hometown!
“National Night Out” is THE premier event in Greater Rockville where over 1,500 people are brought together at one time to allow the community to gather in a healthy, safe manner in the hope of improving neighborhood relationships. Most area social service agencies, churches, service-oriented businesses and volunteer groups have found this one of the best times to focus their outreach efforts to interact with the community members whom they serve in a very comfortable, non-threatening, casual manner. The NNO Mission statement states: National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, better places to live.
